cover Title: Mates, Dates, and Inflatable Bras
Author: Cathy Hopkins

type of book: YA Fiction
call number: YA/Fic

This book is strong in character, story and language.

Summary:
Very much like the Louise Rennison series of books (Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging, etc.), these books are each told through a different character's eyes. Book #1 is told through Lucy's eyes and Book #2 is told through Izzie's point of view.

Book #1: Lucy likes this boy, Tony, whom she finds out is Nesta's brother. Lucy feels like she doesn't fit in. Izzie is smart, Nesta is beautiful and Lucy looks like a 12 yr. old. Boys only see her as a friend.

Izzie and Nesta can get into R-rated movies, but Lucy can't because she looks too young. She doesn't know what classes to choose for next year, i.e. career choice, etc. She feels like Nesta is taking Izzie away from her. However, she does have great wit and humor.

I would recommend this book!

Why?
Overall this series is a fun, fast read. Full of embarrassing moments and tension between friendships during high school years, these books should appeal to many female readers. It is very British in language and setting just like Rennison's books. However, these books lack the richness and detail of Rennison's books.
