Title: My Life of Crime
Author: Richard W. Jennings
type of book: YA Fiction
call number: YA/Fic
|
This book is strong in character and story.
Summary:
Fowler Young finds a green feather in a hallway at school and traces a path to
discover a sickly looking parrot locked up in a cage in a third grade teacher's
classroom (Mrs. Picklestain's). He is shocked by its deplorable condition and
soon devises a plan to steal the parrot and nurse it back to health, all the
while setting up the geekiest 6th grader (Wallace) as the scapegoat who
supposedly stole the bird.
Throughout the book Fowler consults Thurgood Bleeth's "Compendium for Boys" for "all knowledge of
the universe." Some of the wisdom dispensed by this books includes the entry on
the alphabetical system (such a system is either a mindless habit or proof of
the power of librarians) and the entry on getting old (why is it that we
start out looking like people but end resembling fruits and vegetables?)
I would recommend this book!
Why?
Gradually, Fowler's guilt starts affecting him. Will the
school find out who really took the bird? Can Fowler keep his secret and take care of
the sick bird?
