Summary:
Main Characters:

  • The Logans
Tom Logan (father) and his and son (called Dog) - they work as grounds keepers for the rich house Howletts.
  • The Howletts
Grandfather, Master John and wife Elizabeth; a dead son named John and a sickly boy named James
  • Rose - a girl who is a companion to the family and friend of the housekeeper

Rose keeps a diary of her life at the Howletts. The Logan boy seems to fancy her and Rose feels that father Logan beats his son and drinks too much. Years pass and Dog gets tougher and meaner and this fact depresses Rose. He tries to get physical with Rose. He has pretty much turned into his father. James (son of the house) was sickly but is now growing up as well and getting sulky since he's so pampered and alone. His only real friend is a pet dog whom "Dog" Logan kills for interfering with his attack on Rose.

Master John decides to fire the Logans. They take vengeance and try to kidnap Elizabeth and take some money. Father Logan and Dog kill Master John and then James defends himself and kills Father Logan.

Then, James starts growing something out of his knuckles and his mother starts screaming for him to stop and not be like their dead son John. James Howlett is Wolverine. The grandfather sends James and Rose away. James/ Wolverine is disinherited because of his freaky beastiness. They receive some money and flee from Alberta, Canada.

The books continue with how James, taking the name Logan since he can't remember much of his past, grows up and the kind of life he leads. Since his transformation, James/Logan hardly speaks at all and never associates with other people, not even his friend Rose.

    I would recommend this book!

    Why?
Wolverine is the most popular X-Men character and there would be no X-Men without him.

There are many background stories of Wolverine's first traumatic years that help readers understand why he feels, thinks, and acts the way does in the comic series.
