Camille Leslie

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our former library director Camille Leslie. Camille retired in 2011 after 29 years of energetic and forward-thinking leadership.

Air-conditioning…elevator…public parking lot..bookmobile service…two new branches…a remodeled children’s room and auditorium…automated circulation…internet service…are just some of the ways she impacted the library. A fearless advocate for intellectual freedom, she defended library users against those who wanted materials removed from the shelves. Passionate about serving every part of the community, she worked with board member Patricia Beane to start the library’s still vital Cultural Diversity Committee, along with the Friends of the Library and volunteer programs.

She had a kind spirit, a sharp mind, and a life of purpose. We are devastated. Our sincere condolences to her beloved husband Ed Leslie, a professional and internationally-published author.

Atkinson-Feucht-Hare Funeral Home handled the arrangements. The funeral was held at First Baptist Church (Sixth SE and Lincoln Way) at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, with Pastor Larry Lalama of Camille’s church, Central Presbyterian, which is under construction.
