As a part of The Big Read, the Massillon Public Library invites students going into Grades 7-12 to learn about drawing and careers surrounding the industry of comics and cartoons.
Professional illustrator Jerry King (a former Disney cartoonist!) is hosting 3 30-minute Zoom Meetings on July 13, July 20, and July 27 at 5:00 p.m. Participants will receive a sketchpad and gel pens to keep. King’s drawings will be given away to participants after the three sessions end.
Aspiring artists are encouraged to continue their exploration into drawing and cartooning with this book list of titles from the library’s collections.
Registration for this program closed at 11:59 p.m. on July 11. For more information about this free online program, contact Laura Klein at 330-832-9831, x319.
The Big Read is a community reading program focused on a single book. This National Endowment for the Arts initiative, in partnership with Arts Midwest, supports community reading programs across the country. Massillon Museum and its amazing community partners, including the Massillon Public Library, create
innovative and critical programs highlighting the book themes, and exposing participants to new genres and ideas. The selected book is offered to the community for free so that many can participate. This year’s book selection is Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant? by Roz Chast.
