Ohio’s First Super Highway

Local historian Richard Haldi will tell the story of the 310-mile hand-dug ditch that lifted Ohio up and out of a wilderness existence. The presentation will explore the canal’s remarkable story from its inception in the 1820s to the appearance of the first canal boats in Massillon in 1828. This program is presented in partnership between the Massillon Local History & Genealogy Society and the Massillon Public Library.

Book-A-Genealogist

The second Wednesday of each month is set aside for anyone working on family history to “book a genealogist” for a free 90-minute one-on-one consultation. Sessions will take place in the library’s Local History and Genealogy Room. Contact Christine Bowman at 330-832-9831 x350 to schedule your session.

Socialize and research with others who share an interest in area history and family research. Library staff will be available to get you started, and coffee will be provided. This event is free and no registration is necessary, so just stop by!
