The Statistical Abstract of the United States is the best known statistical reference publication in the country. The federal government began publishing it annually in 1878 and continued to do so until 2011, when the Census Bureau unit that published the Statistical Abstract was eliminated due to a need to reduce spending while enhancing data collection efforts. ProQuest has now taken on responsibility for updating and releasing the annual publication, which is now available online in libraries across the country.
The resource includes over 1400 indexed and searchable tables with attached spreadsheets. Users can consult the Abstract as a convenient volume for statistical reference as well as a guide to sources of more information both in print and on the Web.
